Assalaamu Alaykum!
The other day I started thinking about the evil eye. I have to be honest. I can't say I really believe in it. Is it even mentioned in the Qur'an? I know it's been mentioned in Hadiths, but I'm not always 100% convinced of many hadiths validity. When I really think about the evil eye I see that because of someone's jealousy of another, for example, the "other" will have bad luck, so to say. Right? Well, wouldn't that go against the teachings of Islam? Didn't God tell us in the Qur'an that none of us will be punished for another persons sins?
What made me really think of this is because my husband and I are now trying for a baby. What if there is someone out there who is jealous are just plain bitter with resentment for the fact that we are trying. . .or worse, what about if we do get pregnant and someone is so unhappy for us? Wouldn't that mean, if the evil eye is real, we could be in some troublesome waters? Unless, of course, we make du'a, but why should we have to make du'a from other people's negativity towards us in this sense? I feel like I may be punished because someone else is jealous or bitter? What? I don't get it.
On to other news, I am now 4 days late with the Aunt Flow! Woop Woop! Let's pray it won't show at this point!
Asalaamu Alaikum,
ReplyDeleteEvil eye is like black magic. It is like a curse. It doesn't mean it will work, but it can. Its not a punishment though :) This is an extreme example but, someone can murder another person, but that doesn't mean it was the victim's punishment by Allah Subhana Wa Ta'ala.
And for this reason I keep good news a secret for a longgg time. Just in case.
4 days!!! Oh my...I really hope it won't show up and that soon you will announce great news!!! I am so exciting for you.
ReplyDeleteAs for the Evil Eye, I know some traditions and ancient stories are talking about this, but knowing God love for us all I don't think something like this could exist. Others would say I am wrong. Maybe but I also think lots have to do with what we believe or not.
Why do you think you somebody would hurt you this way?
As I always do, in your prayers ask God whether this is reality or fiction. On way or another He will answer you.
In the meantime stay well and have a lovely week-end!
PS: Happy to have you back..
AlabasterMuslim,
ReplyDeleteWa alaykum as salaam! Thank you so much for your answer to this. In fact, I was actually thinking of you when I wrote this because I know you are very knowledgeable and are able to give advice, masha'allah! Your answer does make sense to me. If the evil eye is real, I pray Allah will make it a belief of mine.
Marie,
Oh my, you are soooooo sweet!! Have I told you that before? Really, you put a big smile on my face with your joyous words, masha'allah! I think we are both in agreement about the evil eye for now. I will make prayers for good to give us all the true knowledge. . .whatever that may be.
There is one person whom I know of who doesn't like me so much. Not 100% sure who she is (only talk to her online before), but she makes some pretty nasty comments towards me. Insha'Allah, she will change for the better, but it her behavior really got me thinking about the evil eye and it's validity.
Thank you Ladies!!! I love you both so much for the sake of Allah (swt). If we don't meet in this life, I sure hope we will meet in the next in Paradise, insha'allah!!!
Salaam alaikum,
ReplyDeleteI agree with what sister AlabasterMuslim said...the "evil eye" is like a curse somebody either knowingly (or unknowingly...which is pretty scary!)can put on someone else as a result of extreme destructive jealousy. This is part of the reason we should always say "mash'Allah" when hearing good news or giving a compliment, because it helps to protect us from jealousy by remembering that everything is by the will of Allah(swt) alone. Anyways, the best protection is du'ah...a great one is to recite ayah at kursi once (verse 255 of surat al baqarah), and surat al ikhlas, surat al falaq, and surat an nas each three times...and Allah(swt) knows best.
Oooo 4 days late, mash'Allah that's exciting! I'm still making du'ah for you that Allah(swt) has blessed you with a healthy baby! Insh'Allah soon you'll find out if you're pregnant! :D
Ayah!
ReplyDeleteWa alaykum as salaam, dear!! Thanks for your explanation as well. I will have to think of some more because you and AlabasterMuslim make good comments, but I'm still not 100% convinced. I know, I know, I can be stubborn! LoL
Thank you so much for you du'a for a healthy baby. Masha'Allah, how did I get so lucky to "meet" such sweet sisters on here? Alhamdulillah!
The evil eye is not a myth. It is real! And that's why we must say 'mashaAllah' when we hear good news.

I have read a hadeeth that you can even girl the evil eye to yourself =O I don't have the book with my right now but when I'm back in Malaysia please remind me to tell you the hadeeth and some duas to protect the evil eye based on the Prophet's (pbuh) practices.
Shahirah,
ReplyDeleteI will go check out that sight right away. Thank you so much! I look forward to hearing more from you about this topic. Insha'Allah it will be made easy on me to believe the truth. I love you!!
Asalaamu Alaikum!
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to add after seeing your comments that since certain things are new to you about Islam, it's really good that you are making dua that you are guided! And if you know something is right but you don't necessarily believe it in your heart (if you get what I mean) then it is right of you to make dua to believe it. mashallah just wanted to say that :D
And inshallah you are pregnant!! With a healthy child!! Ameeen!!
You should join baby-gaga.com. I'm obsessed with that website lol.
Awwww thanks AlabasterMuslim. Wa Alaykum Assalaam, by the way :) I totally get what you mean! It's not always easy believing things that you weren't raised with, but it doesn't mean it's not real. I always ask Allah to guide me and all of humanity to the TRUTH, regardless of what the truth is! Insha'Allah!
ReplyDeleteI will check out that site!! Right now I'm addicted to babycenter.com!! LoL Do you have children or TTC? I am sorry if you've mentioned this before and maybe I just forgot. Thank you again for your du'a! Ameen!
