Hi there lovies!
There's something that kind of confuses me and I'm hoping you lovely readers can help me understand. In Islam it's considered haram to pluck the eyebrows, right? I was told that it's because it's sinful to change what Allah has created. I understand that and can completely agree with it, but what about all the tiny little hairs that could easily be plucked without changing the shape of the eyebrow? I was also told that it's ok for a woman to get rid of any other facial hair such as upper lip hair. Now, I have seen a few women who have A LOT of upper lip hair and it is very noticeable. If she were to get rid of that hair then she would look different. Why is it only haram to pluck the eyebrows, but not any other facial hair? And when I say plucking the eyebrows I simply mean cleaning up the strays and NOT changing the shape.
Personally, I prefer a thicker eyebrow, but I do like to get rid of the tiny hairs that wouldn't make a difference anyway to anyone who would look at me. Make sense?
Help me out my dear lovies! Help me to understand this!
Grazie mille!!
Salaamu alaikum! From what I understand, the stray hairs are considered natural (on the eyebrow), but the hairs on a chin or mustache (for women) are not natural...most women don't really have mustaches, lol. Also because it makes them look manly. Because of this they are allowed to get rid of it :D
ReplyDeleteIn the Shi'a tradition (which, although i don't personally have a label, with my husband being Shi'a most hadith and such that I follow are Shi'a) it is permissible. So I don't fret. I think piercing ears is more "changing" than plucking eyebrow hair yet it's permitted. My ears actually aren't pierced, because my Christian father didn't want me to "change the body God gave me." Now that I'm old enough to decide for myself, I just don't see a whole lot of benefit so they remain as is.
ReplyDeleteThanks girls for the feedback. I agree with you Nikki when you said piercing is more changing than plucking. The hair usually grows back anyway so you're not really changing anything permanently.
ReplyDeleteI do think it's natural to have other facial hair though. Maybe not so much that it looks manly like some women do, but for women to have some facial hairs, even if not noticeable, is very common. Being that I'm half Italian, I have dark hairs on my upper lip that I gladly Nair away. If I didn't get rid of them it wouldn't really make me stand out in a crowd or anything, but I feel better looking in the mirror knowing it's gone. Either way, it's still natural. It's late so I'm not sure if I'm making any sense! LOL
Thanks again, lovies!
isnt it strange that you ask if it is haram to pluck the eyebrows but at the same time you dont have any problem to have a piercing??? piercings and tatoo are considered haram!!!
ReplyDeleteMuslimangel,
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what you're getting at here. If I came across as having a problem with plucking the eyebrows, it wasn't my intention. I am simply trying to gain more knowledge and understand my religion. I do have a few piercings and I do pluck the stray hairs around my eyebrows.
I never heard about piercings being haram, but I did know about tattoo's. Thank you for your comment :)
