As salamu alaykum lovies!
Wow, I just L.O.V.E. being up so early! Seriously. I have a few minutes before having to get ready for work so I thought I would make a quick entry about, well, WORK!
Who out there has a job they don't like? It takes every cell in your body and every persuasive word out of your mind to get yourself out of the car and into the workplace each day? I know I do! Yes lovies, I do NOT enjoy my job. In fact, I can't stand it so much that I've already put in my notice and will be leaving December 1st. What is it that I do and why don't I like it?
I work at a hotel. A large resort at a very popular vacation destination. I meet great people from around the world, yes, but I also meet some people that make me think that just maybe it's worse to have to sleep in a double size bed at a rate of $200-$400 a night when so many lovely people in this world have NO BED AT ALL! ACK! Okay, I am studying for a degree in Social Work. Working at a hotel couldn't be more opposite than that! When I get off of work each day I do not have a comforting feeling like I've done something to change someone's life at all. Of course I get appreciation when I send up some chocolate covered strawberries or cheese and crackers to someones suite, but it's just not enough for me! I need more! Oh, and I also feel INCREDIBLY guilty because my job is not all that HALAL. I take orders with alcohol and, I hate to admit it, but gossip is a full fledged REQUIREMENT it seems like to work there. Every day I feel GUILTY GUILTY GUILTY!
On one hand I feel incredibly BLESSED to have even found this job 10 months ago with the economy the way it is, but I just can't do it anymore. So, what's the next step? Eh, I'm trying to figure that one out.
I remember a few years back I read an article about careers. There was a little exercise in it and I want us all to try it out. Basically, if you had 5 seperate lives and could have a different DREAM career in each, what would they be? Why? And what steps could you take to establish yourself in each career?
I will be putting together my list and then sharing it with you all lovely readers soon, insha'allah.
For now, I must get ready for another day at work. . .
Salaamu Alaikum!
ReplyDeleteIts too bad about your job, but at least you are able to leave it :D And while there is a lot of haraam going on there, it seems like its probably reinforced your dislike for all of that. so alhamdullilah :D
alright so 5 different lives and dream career
1)(my real life dream lol) My dream career is building cob/eco domes for muslim and non muslim people in disaster areas (or just poor people), while owning land so people (like abused women with children) could immediately be bought a plane ticket and sent out to live on our ranch and they could heal along with their children (and our many horses haha). Plus have a local muslim Phycologist/Psychiatrist to assist them as they come onto the seen. inshallah!
I'm sorry I think I'd want to do this in all 5 of my lives lol.
Alahamdullilah! That is amazing! May Allah give you the ability to be successful at such a career (Ameen). Your dream is very similar to one of mine (I have many. LoL). I would love to move to my husband's home country (Morocco) and open up a shelter home for pregnant teens/prostitutes. They are often disowned from families and looked down upon in society there. I want them to have a place to improve their lives with career training, proper medical care, education and parenting/lifestyle groups. Insha'Allah this will happen with or without me one day there and all over the world :)
ReplyDeleteThat is only one of my dreams though!
It must be a tough decision you made mashallah..Inshallah you will get a better job that you LOVE soon :)..
ReplyDeleteregarding your question, I'll wait to answer it when u post it on a different post inshallah :)
Oh and your dream is so sweet..inshallah it might turn true one day
